Meals on Wheels Partners with Moravian Adult Day Center

We’ve recently participated in a partnership with Moravian Adult Day Center in downtown Lancaster. In 2015, the Moravian Day Center as an extension of Lancaster Moravian Church became an approved vendor by the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Moravian provides daytime care for adults 60 years and older who are in need of assistance with personal care and medical oversight including structured recreational activities and nutritional meals including breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. The site also provides enhanced dementia programs for individuals who are struggling with dementia or memory loss under the lite and bright program.

Originally, culinary students were preparing the lunchtime meals. This past fall of 2016, the students went a different direction focusing their services on providing nutritious school lunches. This opened up an opportunity for the Meals on Wheels kitchen to extend their services and provide a lunch meal and transport it to the day center Monday through Friday. The meal consists of a main course including meat or seafood, a starch, a vegetable, a fruit, and a salad. The meals mirror the same menu and nutritional requirements of the meals provided to other Meals on Wheels recipients.

We thank Moravian Day Center as we are able to work hand-in-hand with providing further nourishment and care to the senior citizens of our community!
