Now that the weather is warming up, Meals on Wheels of Lancaster is gearing up for the annual Sertoma Chicken BBQ, which is held on the third Saturday of May in Lancaster. This year, on May 18, Sertoma Club members and volunteers will serve over 24,000 chicken dinners, making sure the event lives up to its reputation as the largest one-day chicken barbecue in world. The Sertoma Club of Lancaster, formed in 1952, is the largest of all the clubs which make up Sertoma International, a world-wide civic organization. The goal of the Sertoma Club is to provide SERvice TO Mankind. Read more here.
On the day of the barbeque, Sertoma is serving chicken dinners for $12 including a Half Chicken, Herr’s Potato Chips, a pretzel, a piece of fruit, a Pepperidge Farm Dinner Roll, Wegmans Applesauce, a Turkey Hill Beverage, and Hershey’s Twizzlers Candy.
We are so excited for our partnership with Sertoma, who is donating free chicken dinners to our meal recipients on Saturday, May 18th! Our meal recipients always look forward to this annual opportunity.
Because we don’t usually deliver on Saturdays, we are looking for volunteer drivers to deliver these chicken dinners from our location on Manheim pike to our meal recipients.
