Volunteer Spotlight: Carl Spangler

Carl enjoys visiting and delivering meals to our clients four days out of the week. He incorporates running into his daily routine and trains for his frequent races and marathons six days out of the week.

Here stands Carl Spangler, sporting his gold medal after winning 2nd place in his age group (50-59) in an 11 mile marathon in Campbelltown this past weekend. Congratulations, Carl! This marks his 1,140th race that he has participated in over his past 38 years of running, and we are still counting!

“I don’t know what sport I would have ended up doing if it weren’t for running. I like it!”

Carl enjoys visiting and delivering meals to our clients four days out of the week. He incorporates running into his daily routine and trains for his frequent races and marathons six days out of the week. When he is not running around his development and Long’s Park, this cat lover enjoys bowling, and watching Track and Field and Cross Country on TV.

This Saturday, Carl will be participating in The Unique Colors of Excentia Fun Run, on October 1. He also has a one-mile race on October 15 and half marathon on October 22 coming up in Lititz. On October 23, Carl will be running a 26.2 marathon in Atlantic City!

Hats off to Carl Spangler for showing your dedication not only to Meals on Wheels, but to inspiring others to exercise, stay active, and never give up on pursuing what you love! Keep on rockin’ on!
